Figuring out Liam’s new camera setup
Liam very recently had an unbelievable Facebook marketplace score, two Sony HDR FX7’s for only $X,XXX.XX. Since then, we’ve been doing some troubleshooting to make the damn things usable for our purposes.
Sourcing a fisheye lens is easy enough these days if you’re willing to buy an off-brand on eBay, but we were being stubborn about not wanting to use tapes, so Liam picked out a ClearClick 3.0 A/V recorder and after three or four tries on where to place the damn thing on the camera we were able to get some usable footage.
Please excuse the egregious lens hood situation and the stabilization. This has been worked out.
I’m pretty excited about how the footage has turned out, but I have a nagging lingering feeling that better footage could be captured if we were to use the MiniDV tapes and a firewire setup. I’ve also noticed that there’s an HDMI output on this camera, so if I can utilize that with a capturecard, I would expect that to be the best way to capture skateboarding on this camera. Updates coming soon.
